Govt okays $1.39 bn highways upgrade plan

NEW DELHI: The cabinet on Thursday approved a Rs 56.11 billion ($1.39 billion) plan to upgrade 840 km (520 miles) of national highway, a minister said. "This would be upgradation of highways to six lanes from four lanes," Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
