Tata Steel, Hindalco show mettle in weak market

MUMBAI: Indices were off lows but traded in negative terrain under pressure from global peers. A slump in US indices, triggered by low consumer confidence and credit fears, has led to a weakness in Asian stocks.
At 11:46 am, Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was at 14,837.48, down 82 points or 0.55 per cent. The 30-share index had fallen to a low of 14,592.11.
National Stock Exchange's Nifty was down 19 points or 0.43 per cent at 4302.05, but off the low of 4226.35 touched earlier.
