Credit scores to aid banks in lending decision

NEW DELHI: Electricity bills, electoral rolls, and other sources of credit information will soon be accessed by credit information companies to study payment patterns and assign credit scores to borrowers.
Once licensed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to function as credit information bureaux, they will be permitted to mine data from the Election Commission, utilities and other service providers. The central bank has already called for applications for registration from companies for credit information.
