MUMBAI: The defence ministry is likely to release spectrum for mobile telephone services in 50 key locations across India, in a move that could have a significant impact on the quality and growth of wireless services in the country.
The move, agreed upon in a meeting between the defence secretary Vijay Singh and his telecom counterpart DS Mathur on August 27, ends months of vacillation and stubborn resistance by the defence ministry. It could boost the wireless industry’s expansion plans in the world’s fastest growing market.
