PEs in emerging mkts raise $21.5 bn till June

LONDON: Emerging market private equity funds raised $21.5 billion in capital in the first half of 2007, in line to beat the 2006 total of $33.2 billion, the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) said on Wednesday.
The industry group estimated that another $7.7 billion had been raised for emerging private equity funds in July and August, bringing the year-to-date total to over $28 billion. It did not give a comparative figure for the first six months of 2006.
