The homepage of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is terse but succinct: “The NSG was created after the explosion of a nuclear device in 1974 by a non-nuclear weapon state, which demonstrated that nuclear technology transferred for peaceful purposes can be misused.” The ‘non-nuclear weapon state’ is of course India.
